LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Senior Matt Ulrich (Garfield, N.J.) earned a pair of victories to highlight four matches at the 2009 Desert Duals hosted by Wartburg College in at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In four dual meets, including three against top ten teams, Southern Maine earned on victory defeating Grand Canyon (Ariz.) 24-20 in its first match of the day. The Huskies then fell to fifth-ranked Wartburg College 50-3, eighth-ranked University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point 33-15 and third-ranked Coe College 40-3.

Ulrich earned a 3-2 overtime decision against Coe’s Jordan Westfall and pinned Shane Sweeney of UW-Stevens Points in 4:50 both at 141 pounds. USM freshman Cody Byrd (Londondery, N.H.) joined Ulrich as a double-winner picking up victories against UW-Stevens Point Andy Dilworth by decision 4-1 and Grand Canyon’s Juan Carlos Maynes by decision 13-6.

Southern Maine returns to action on Monday, January 4 (5:00 p.m.) in the first day of the Williams Invitational.
